Earth Day Shmirth Day
Here are a few posts on Earth Day, I think my husband’s is the best. He posts about Earth Day and the Christian’s responsibility to the earth in view of scripture, of course. Check out his post at his blog, Pure Milk. Also, Mike, over at Mike’s America has some interesting things to say about Earth Day, from a political point of view. And Michelle Malkin posts on the fear mongering that drives the “green” movement.
What’s my take on Earth Day? Well, the title of this post should give you a big clue! I believe that God created earth and he is one who deserves the
credit and worship! I also believe that humans have a responsibility to take care of the earth, as an act of worship to God the Creator of the earth. Our naturalistic world has turned Earth Day into “worship” earth day. Don’t get me wrong, I love nature, flowers, the blue sky and green grass. But when I look at it, I think about God and his creativity and his glory! This earth is only our home for a small amount of time and although we are charged to take care of it, we are to take care of it as an out pouring of our love for God. As my husband’s post points out, this is not a new concept, environmentalism is not cutting edge. Since the fall of man (when Adam and Eve sinned and sin entered the world), man has struggled to put God first. Now, instead of worshiping the Creator, we worship the creation. I am all for recycling, but it is not my hope. My hope is in God! God is eternal, this earth is finite. For the unbeliever, this earth is all they have. But, my home is in heaven, with Jesus Christ and that is my HOPE! My husband’s post on this topic is excellent, I highly recommend you read it! Blessings!
15 “Therefore watch yourselves very carefully. Since you saw no form on the day that the LORD spoke to you at Horeb out of the midst of the fire, 16beware lest you act corruptly by making a carved image for yourselves, in the form of any figure, the likeness of male or female, 17the likeness of any animal that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged bird that flies in the air, 18the likeness of anything that creeps on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the water under the earth. 19And beware lest you raise your eyes to heaven, and when you see the sun and the moon and the stars, all the host of heaven, you be drawn away and bow down to them and serve them, things that the LORD your God has allotted to all the peoples under the whole heaven. 20But the LORD has taken you and brought you out of the iron furnace, out of Egypt, to be a people of his own inheritance, as you are this day. ~Deuteronomy 4:15-20
